After experimenting, we feel that the colour palette should remain cold due to our chosen genre being rock, and because the meaning behind the narrative is quite sad, surrounding the idea of teenage angst and escapism. Additionally, cold colours such as blue, match with our song name being called 'Drown' and the footage of the ocean.

Location: pictures
Here are few pictures from our location. The Location today was fantastic. Our use of cinematography was great for example, there was many high angles such as the one of Georgie combined with a close up in order to create an sense of power. There was establishing shots also taken of the main house. Furthermore in terms of Mise en scene, the lighting was fairly dark in our location therefore we used a camera light in order to create an empowering emotion. The high key lighting in the cellar was especially important for us. We also took a lot of footage of the instrumental so when it came to editing there was a lot of resources for the fast paced editing.

Filming: On Set
Here are a few pictures from filming on set. The location was amazing and we could use the iconography of the stately home in our video, which would enable us to come up with more ideas, for our music video. There was an underground basement, which with a bit of light was a great location to express the isolations that people feel due to self image. Furthermore, there were many grand mirrors around the stately home which allowed us to create reflecting shots.

Filming: on our way to location
We looked at our filming schedule, in order to take all the equipment that we needed for filming. First day filming was very exciting, as it was the first time we saw the location that we would be filming in.

People involved on set and filming
As a group we decided that all of us will be present in the music video, as its our final year, so it was decided to make us the official band members. The choice around who would be the main star was through a lucky dip and now Georgie is a main vocalist, therefore myself and Orla will be the instrumentals, hopefully I'm the guitarist and Orla the drummer, however we will decide this amongst ourselves. We're filming in a few days and it is very exciting. We also intend to film all of our performance at the chosen location, and Georgie's mum Nikki will be our help to guide us as she is an actress herself and her idea's are also very important, as she knows what audience enjoy the most.
Georgie seems perfect for the role, as her fashion sense is already of the Pop Punk genre and also rock, with her ripped jeans and band t-shirts. Georgie seems pleased to be the vocalist too, which is great, however during the lip syncing we will encourage and boost Georgie's confidence, in order to achieve the best lip syncing. From our Prelim, it was considerable hard to match the song up with the lip syncing, therefore we are hoping to over shoot, so during the editing process there will be enough footage to edit with.

Conventions of pop punk- representation of the band- costume
- As our demographic of teenagers to late 20's consist predominantly of adolescents and young adults, the style of clothing and accessories tend to be casual, with jeans, tshirts and trainers such as skate shoes or converses being a staple.
- Furthermore the band will be wearing mostly black and skinny jeans to conform with Emo punk,
- Due to all the members being female, we will wear minimal makeup because aesthetics are seen to an extent as rather unimportant within pop punk, with the music and community it brings amongst the young listeners being the main focus.
- CONVENTIONS OF COSTUME

As the artists and the demographic of their music consist predominantly of adolescents and young adults, the style of clothing and accessories tend to be casual, with jeans, tshirts and trainers such as skate shoes or converses being a staple. Similarities of this theme of youth can be observed throughout much pop music as well, which can be heard in the punchy beats of pop punk. The casual costume is also due to the energetic nature of the music which requires plenty of movement during performances at gigs and the carefree attitude of the musicians. In line with the theme of youth is often the hairstyles worn by musicians, which are often untidy and can be dyed bright colours such as the trademark orange colour that Hayley Williams is known for. The casual clothing of jeans and tshirts is even true of female artists, who have become more common in recent years with examples being Hayley Williams of Paramore, Tay Jardine of We We Are The In Crowd and Jenna McDougall of Tonight Alive.

Though the themes of youth, rebellion and fun still remain in the costumes, fashions within pop punk do progress through the decades, just like an other genre. This is largely due to the interest in fashion that those of the 16-34 demographic tend to hold, as well as the fresh nature of the genre. For example, early pop punk bands such as Blink 182 and The Offspring would wear baggy jeans and shorts for the majority of the time because this was the fashion amongst young people and skaters at the time. Hairstyles were often spiked with hair gel; this could be seen on Deryck Whibley of Sum 41and on the mohawk of Travis Barker of Blink 182. When the popularity of the genre increased significantly in the mid nineties with bands such as Blink 182 and New Found Glory, this style remained with just a few changes here and there.

Though similarities remain, the style of pop punk clothing has experienced significant progression since from the early 2000s until present day. One notable trend that emerged during the mid 2000s was that of “Emo Pop” worn by newer bands such as Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco, of whom wore tight skinny jeans, eyeliner and the distinctive long dark hairstyles that became popular amongst adolescents and are often still seen now. Black was livened up with bright colours such as reds and purples and patterns such as tartan and skulls emerged. From the late noughties, this trend has become less frequent, however skinny jeans remain a staple part of most pop punk artists’ wardrobes as well as the long straightened hair that is still worn by artists in “poppier” bands such as All Time low.

| Panic at the Disco |
Current pop punk fashion is rather recognisable and differs from earlier fashions. Still remaining is the trend of skinny jeans and brands such as Vans, however the emergence of new styles such as t shirts cut into tank tops and prints such as camouflage and tie dye is fairly new, with these being used in merchandise as well as being worn by musicians and fans. Hair styles have also evolved, getting shorter recently with accessories such as snapback hats becoming more popular. Styles of merchandise has also changed, with popular prints being utilised and new images and fonts being used. For example, merchandise often now includes images of the band performing live or adaptations of existing characters and brands to relate to the band, such as Neck Deep’s popular Taco Bell and MTV related items, which entice the fans with their relatability and fun. Varsity fonts are now commonly used for they are associated with high schools so connote youth and address the Americanisation of much of the genre, which started out in the USA. Lyrics and slogans such as Man Overboard’s “Defend Pop Punk” are also often printed on merchandise. As record sales account for less of the musicians’ takings, sales of merchandise is relied upon more heavily so it is important that the styles of these constantly change to keep up with fashion so that people are persuaded to buy and wear it; it is also an effective way to advertise because people actually pay to wear the band’s logo in public. The significance of popular brands in pop punk is an ever growing aspect of pop punk that became more frequent in the mid nineties and early 2000s. These fashion labels would often sponsor bands, as the skate brand Atticus did with Blink 182. This still happens today with collaborations between current pop punk artists such Alex Gaskarth and Jack Barakat of All Time low and the popular alternative brand of Glamour Kills and their respective clothing lines “A.W.G” and “Jagk”. Even the band’s bass player Zack Merrick now runs a clothing line, demonstrating the growing importance of fashion within the pop punk community. Other clothing brands associated with the genre include Vans, Drop Dead Clothing, and Converse.
Other brands involved within the pop punk industry are those affiliated with the lifestyle of the listeners; these are often sponsors of stages at music events at which the bands play. These rang from smaller festivals such as Slam Dunk Festival and Hit The Deck Festival to larger national festivals such as Reading Festival and Download. These brands may be for alcoholic drinks such as Jaegermeister or energy drinks such as Monster Energy that were present at multiple festivals this year as well as Vans, which is associated with the hobby of skateboarding, which is popular amongst the young listeners of pop punk.
These brands will have their logos printed on promotions such as posters and on print as well as on the internet and television, as well as being visible in the stage décor and around the venue. Brands may also promote themselves at these events by handing out free products such as shots and may sell merchandise in stalls. This collaboration is beneficial to all because brands are promoted whilst money is fed back into the music industry via the fees paid to sponsor events and artists.

Other Locations?
777, Commercial Rd, LIMEHOUSE E14 - Caird and Rayner:
Caird and Rayner This workshop was built in 1869 as a sail-makers’ and
ship-chandlers’ warehouse. It was occupied by Caird & Rayner from
1889 to 1972 and was never substantially altered, so the building
retains its original cast-iron window frames and two double loading
doors that open on to the Limehouse Cut. Caird & Rayner were
engineers and coppersmiths who specialized in the design and manufacture
of seawater distilling plant for supplying boilers and drinking water
on Royal Navy vessels and Cunard liners.
Other places:
Waterloo tunnel
is now a designated legal graffiti area so anyone can turn up and get spraying
This locations have a sense of abandonment to them which would conform greatly to our genre, therefore it is currently in consideration to film in these locations.

Location for our music video
My group member Georgie, came across a perfect filming location for our music video as it had a gothic feel to it and was full of mirrors around the home which would allow the aspect of self image. There is also a music studio which could be used to for our performance aspect of the video. As a group we have decided to use this property to be our main location to shot at.

BFI trip
The trip to the British Film Institute was very insightful. We were shown various music videos which where inspiring and Chief Examiner Pete was there which was even more amazing. From the trip I took away the idea, that a performance was NEEDED in a music video. Therefore our group decided on this aspect greatly, as it was advised to do one by the examiner. We were shown A grade material which allowed us to see what kind of editing could be used. The trip was great and I had left with many idea's for my own music video.

Inspirational shots
In Blink 182- Feeling This, I particularly enjoy the performance aspect, the camera is constantly moving, and there are a limited number of static shots being produced, I would like to incorporate this aspect in my music video too. The video is a snippet from the the music video, I used a website called 'TubeChop' which allows me to chop YouTube videos to the parts that I need.

Inspiring shots - Band Shots
As the song is sung by a lead female vocalist, there is a chance to create a band of our own which is currently under discussion. However there are many inspiring shots that would look effective in our video such as epic band shots to introduce the new band and to add to the genre of Rock, with the use of guitars and drums.
Here are some of my favorite shots:
I really like shots of the band, here are some examples from renowned rock band, Linkin Park with Chester as lead vocalist along with the rest of the band in the band ground. The use of mid shot, fish eye lenses and the canted angles creates a very rock edge to videos as I have observed. Therefore a great band shot is needed in our video similar to that of Linkin Park.
Here are some of my favorite shots:

Starting to Storyboard
Following the Copyright Permission request, as a group we discussed ideas as a foundation to help us plan our music video. As a visual, Orla and myself started to storyboard to allow some sort visual imagery to guide us. On listening to the lyrics, there are many self image, religious and freedom connotations. The group discussed what our main aspect behind the video would be, at the current moment we are thinking 'self image' and what problems this can create. We have attempted to break down the seconds for different shots, however this is proving difficult due to the number of beats and where to change shots. The song was on repeat to allow us to come up with inspirational.

Copy Right Permission Request
As a group we created a Copy Right permission request in order to obtain permission to use the song we have selected for our music video. We did this so there would be no issue during our production, and to let the record label know that we had asked for permission before using the song.

Star Quality Theory - Richard Dyer
''A star is an image constructed (as any other
aspect of the fiction is) from a range of materials- E.G. advertising
and magazines, as well as films and music. -Richard Dyer
Andy Biersack, the lead singer has been everyone favorite due to his funny humor in interviews and also being the original member of the band in 2007. Since then Andy has been on the front covers of many magazines and recently a billboard in Camden to recognises the release of their new album .
There have also been many posters within the center of the magazine, also jam packed with interviews which keeps fans excited and up to date with all the band talk. Andy has made it to the 100 most greatest Rockstars, being one of the youngest and most recent.
To a great extent leader singer of Black Veil Brides, Andy Biersack, similar to the rock genre Tonight Alive conforms with Richard Dyer's theory. As there are a lot of advertisements, twitter feed and Facebook posts. The band became famous due to MySpace, which attracted many young people who enjoy the rock genre, from there Black Veil Brides became very well known and now have won best song and album of the year.

Analysis of similar media productions - Sum 41 - In Too Deep
I've selected two sections of Sum 41's video 'In Too Deep' which conform with Goodwin and Archer's theory. There is a connection between visual, music and lyrics as the video is set in a swimming pool as the title of the song suggests, which relates to water. There is once again similar to the other video's that I research, a narrative and performance side of the video. I believe, if you have these two aspects to a music video, it becomes very interesting for the audience, furthermore there is lip syncing that can further our skills for editing.
The video above, is a band performance, which conforms with the aspect of star image. The use of circling the band is highly effective, as all members of the band are present, in addition the close ups of the band and the main vocalist is what record label companies demand for in order to sell their product successfully. The video below is the narrative aspect of the music video, which links the lyrics to the visuals. Pop Punk genre, always makes the video exciting to watch with an underlining point to it all. It can be serious however in a more humorous way.

Analysis of similar media productions - Avril Lavigne- Girlfriend
Similar to that of All American Rejects and Wheatus, there is a reoccurring theme in the music videos, that there is a mix of narrative and performance, therefore as a conclusion it would be ideal to do the same for our music video as the genre of Pop Punk, seems to prefer this aspect.
As Andrew Goodwin mentions about there being a link between visuals and lyrics, in the song 'Girlfriend' the entire video conforms to this as, the narrative is about girlfriends and break up. In all Pop Punk type of videos, there is always an underlining message being created which allows fans and listeners to relate therefore is a great selling point for the artist.
Furthermore there is a star image being created as the star Avril Lavigne is always shown through the use of tilt shots and extreme close ups. The tone creates as fun atmosphere for the video which is a theme throughout Pop Punk videos, which are meant to be chaotic to watch, Avril conforms to many of Andrew Goodwin's theories and there is a close link between the visuals, music and lyrics.

Analysis of similar media productions - Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag

Wheatus is one of the most famous Pop Punk music videos, it creates an exciting atmosphere, there are also intellectual references as Andrew Goodwin states in a theory about music video, which is the entire narrative section of the song, also there is a performance, this has so many similar characteristics to All American Rejects.
There are close up of the main vocalist which conforms to Andrew Goodwin's theory due to the demand of the record label. Furthermore, there is a link between the music and visuals as there is a angry tone and atmosphere because an unrequited love scenario which reflects that of the music, to a great extent.
Analysis of similar media productions - All American Rejects - Dirty Little Secret
The All American Rejects music video has much in common with Goodwin and Archer's theory behind music videos, there are some screen shots that conform with the theory. I looked into other video that fall under the Pop Punk genre to gain inspiration for my own music video, I have observed many narrative and band performances in the videos also the idea that there is a burst of energy and is very chaotic while performing similar to that of the rock genre. Furthermore, there is always a sense of star image in the video due to the various camera shots such as close ups and many canted angles which expresses clearly the impressions of the artist whether happy or sad.
Both theorist Goodwin and Archer mention that there should be a direct link with the music video and lyrics, in the music video 'Dirty Little Secret's' the storyline is evident as there are various secrets being showed in the video and mostly throughout it too, which complies with the theory. It also demonstrates the characteristics of a Pop Punk genre as there is a performing rock band, fast paced editing similar to that of the Rock genre, it is also quiet energetic and chaotic.
Furthermore both Andrew and Archer, stated that due to the demand of
record labels, there should be close ups of the artist and the band
where ever possible in order to gain recognition for their music. There
are many close up shots of the main vocalist and the band itself, this has inspired me to make sure that there are many close up shots of the vocalist if we choose to do a performance video.

Coventions of a Pop Punk Music Video
Pop punk (also known as punk-pop) is a fusion music genre that combines elements of punk rock with pop music to varying degrees. The music typically combines fast punk tempos, chord changes and loud guitars with pop-influenced melodies and lyrical themes.
A little background/history:
Pop-influenced punk rock emerged in the mid 1970s with a music style that was stylistically similar to power pop. By the mid 1980s, several bands merged hardcore punk with pop music to create a new, faster pop punk sound. Pop punk in the United States began to grow in popularity locally in California in the mid to late 1980s with the formation of new bands such as Green Day and The Offspring. Pop punk particularly thrived in California, where independent record labels adopted a do it yourself (DIY) approach to releasing music.
Characteristics:
AllMusic describes pop punk as a strand of alternative rock that typically merges pop melodies with speedy punk rock tempos, chord changes and loud guitars. About.com has described second-wave pop punk bands as having "a radio friendly sheen to their music, but still maintaining much of the speed and attitude of classic punk rock"
The New York Times writes that the music of the pop punk band Green Day revolves around "classic pop problems like relationships and girl trouble and modern punk problems like alienation and confusion."
When looking at Pop Punk Music video's there were many reoccurring themes, here are some I spotted:

- bright colours and lighting which can be referred to as fun and exciting
- live clips of the band playing to the audience with different montages
- cuts and edited to the beat
- MANY close up of the artist and bands
- many have narratives or go against typical conventions which express the characteristics of Pop Punk
- humorous, which represents the down to earth personality of the band/ artist such as Blink 182 such as All The Small Things takes the 'mick' out of other conventions to create their own video
